7 and 10.1 inches android tablets and 4.8 inch smart phone from Acer

Acer is placing its bets behind Android with the announcement of a 7-inch tablet, a 10.1-inch tablet and a 4.8-inch smartphone based off of Google’s mobile OS. The unnamed tablets sport 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity, an eye-popping 1280×800 screen resolution and 1080p HDMI capacity. The 10.1-inch tablet is 13.3mm thick, making it just slightly wider than Apple’s 12.7mm iPad tablet. The larger tablet also boast a 5MP rear camera and a front-facing one. Both devices will go on sale in April 2011. Acer also took the opportunity today to announce a 4.8-inch hybrid smartphone/tablet device. Also yet to be named, the smartphone is similar to the Dell Streak, but is definitely more powerful. It sports a 1024×480 screen resolution (a ridiculous resolution for a phone), a 21:9 aspect ratio, an 8MP camera with an LED flash, a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor and a Gyroscope/accelerometer combo that makes it ideal as a portable gaming device. It also launches in April 2011. Beyond ridiculously awesom

Astronomers find giant extragalactic planet

Astronomers have for the first time spotted a planet that originated outside the galaxy. Till date, about 500 planets have been discovered. This is the first known planet to have been born elsewhere. The gas planet, at least 25 percent heavier than Jupiter or 400 times heavier than Earth, orbits a star that started life in a dwarf galaxy, according to the journal Science Express. Known as HIP 13044b, the hydrogen and helium planet sits in a solar system belonging to a group of stars called the Helmi stream, some 2,000 light years away from Earth, the Telegraph reports. Between six and nine billion years ago, the Helmi merged with the Milky Way in an act of 'galactic cannibalism'. It is now in a southern constellation of the Milky Way called the Fornax or Furnace. Because of the vast distance, astronomers at the European Southern Observatory (ESO) in La Silla, Chile, could not detect the planet visibly, using the 2.2 metre-diameter telescope. Instead, they inferred i

Twitter Calculates Reputation Scores for Each User

Ever wonder how Twitter determines which users to suggest in the Who to Follow section? Federated Media’s John Battelle posed this question to Twitter co-founder Evan Williams at the Web 2.0 Summit. Part of the answer, according to Williams, is that the company calculates a reputation score for every user. While Williams — who recently stepped down as Twitter’s CEO to focus on product — did not disclose specifics, he did share that each Twitter user has a reputation score, which the company uses internally as part of its Who to Follow formula. That score may eventually become part of Twitter’s public-facing features, says Williams. Reputation scores, and influence in particular, have become trendy subject matters in today’s social media world. Startup Klout has developed an entire business around scoring social influence. A Twitter user’s Klout score, for instance, could determine whether he or she gets special treatment from an airline or hotel. Apparently, Twitter has wrestle

IPL player auctions on January 8, 9

The IPL player auction for the 2011 season will be held on January 8 and 9 in Mumbai, the league's governing council has announced. The tournament itself will feature eight teams, playing 60 matches, and run from April 8 to May 22. The tournament, which begins a week after the World Cup ends, will involve each of the eight sides playing playing 14 games, adding up to 56 matches, the same as in previous IPL editions. The top two from the league rounds will then contest a play-off match, with the winner qualifying for the "Grand Final." The teams that finish third and fourth in the league stage will contest the other play-off, and the winner of that game will play the defeated team from the first play-off to decide the second finalist. The auction is likely to be on the scale of the first one, held in 2008, with teams starting largely from scratch, and will be held under rules framed in September. One difference will be the absence of "icon" players - original

Facebook unveils e-mail

The world's favourite social networking website, Facebook has launched a new messaging service, which allows the users to communicate with people outside the social network. The new messaging system will provide a '@facebook.com' e-mail address to users. The new system will integrates all web and text-based communications and works directly in the Facebook page. Texts, email or instant messages will all come into one 'feed' or 'social inbox' and users can respond in any way they want. Users can respond to messages via an instant message or email. The entire conversation histories will be stored in Inbox, which users can check at any time. Now Facebook users can connect with other people with e-mail or messaging other than the current system of posting messages on profile page and internal messaging service. "This is not an email killer. This is a messaging system that includes email as one part of it," said Zuckerberg, Facebook CEO. &quo

AOL Unveils “Project Phoenix,” Its New Webmail App

AOL this afternoon unveiled an updated web client for e-mail, which it says accounts for 45% of all its page views. The announcement and new features have arrived just one day before Facebook is expected to announce an e-mail solution of its own. The new e-mail app — currently called “Project Phoenix” — is in beta testing with just a few users, but it will launch to the public next year sometime. It’s part of a recent spate of AOL moves to reinvigorate a once-great brand that has recently been eclipsed by newer ventures like Google and Facebook. The company recently launched a Groupon-like group-buying site and acquired the popular tech blog TechCrunch; those are just a couple of its recent moves. The webmail redesign is a particularly notable move because of that 45% figure we just mentioned. According to CNET, the new design “looks a lot like Gmail” with some extra features added in, such as a quick bar for easily writing and sending short e-mails. There’s also a new Twitter-li

history of Veterans Day

Veterans Day is an annual United States holiday honoring military veterans. A federal holiday, it is observed on November 11. It is also celebrated as Armistice Day or Remembrance Day in other parts of the world, falling on November 11, the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I. (Major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 with the German signing of the Armistice.) The holiday is commonly printed as Veteran's Day or Veterans' Day in calendars and advertisements. While these spellings are grammatically acceptable, the United States government has declared that the attributive (no apostrophe) rather than the possessive case is the official spelling. The U.S. President Woodrow Wilson first proclaimed an Armistice Day for November 11, 1919. In proclaiming the holiday, he said     "To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with lots of pride in the hero

Dave Whitelegg said that although Facebook is a fun way to keep in touch with friends and family, it can also be dangerous. "Posting certain photos or information on the site puts you at risk of being fired, a victim of crime, or even worse. There are computer programmes called 'data mining' that sweep Facebook to collect dates of birth, phone numbers, addresses etc. That's gold dust to criminals," the Sun quoted Whitelegg, an IT security expert, as saying. Here are the 10 things you should never post on Facebook and why. Date and place of birth- This places you at massive risk of identity theft. as long as you love me song lyrics

As long as you love me Although loneliness has always been a friend of mine I'm leavin' my life in your hands People say I'm crazy and that I am blind Risking it all in a glance And how you got me blind is still a mystery I can't get you out of my head Don't care what is written in your history As long as you're here with me I don't care who you are Where you're from What you did As long as you love me Who you are Where you're from Don't care what you did As long as you love me Every little thing that you have said and done Feels like it's deep within me Doesn't really matter if you're on the run It seems like we're meant to be I don't care who you are (who you are) Where you're from (where you're from) What you did As long as you love me (I don't know) Who you are (who you are) Where you're from (where you're from) Don't care what you did As long as you love me (yeah)
